I have a 20 Gallon long. My fish I have currently will get a combined length of 13 inches, but the Synodontis Brichardi only swims at the bottom and the Rainbow Shark stays at the botttom and middle. I have alot of filtration( 2 Aquaclear 50(200) filled with media) and plan on adding a Eheim 2028 Professional II canister filter after I've saved up enough money. Do I have room for a couple of 3 inch tetras ( Alestopetersius Caudalis)? Also, Will I have room after that for a Butterfly fish(I'll make sure to keep the aquarium covered this time )? So do I have enough room left?

not really much room left, its a lot better to understock then overstock, i mean besides water clarity you'll run into probelms with like aggression, i know most of those fish are peaceful but aggression does come out of anything or even anyone when there isn't much room
sorry it took so long to geet a reply man, i was out all day!

Do I have enough extra room for just the two tetras along with the fish I have now?

zebra danios, but I'm not sure if they are compatible or if your fish will like them, mine has jumped once, but it was in a little cup cuz I was moving it from one tank to the other, it wont jump out of holes in the tank

Is there a fish that stays in the middle or top layers of the aquarium that doesn't need to be in groups that gets to 3 or 4 inches?

a betta, but their aggressive, well can be, and are a bit, how about a male swordtail? males only cause the females may be prego, umm, a hatchet fish is a good top dweller but they do jump out a lot, how about a Dwarf Gourami? they look nice!!!!!! they get to 2 inches in most cases and plus you'll have a few inches so you won't really overstock, or get too close to it

zebra danios grow to about 2 inches but they need to be in at least a pair, there are different kinds of danios though

Do Killifish do better alone or in pairs?
