I am going to divide 5 gallon tank that i own now, and put cody in with lillian, because cody is old, and he deserves a heated tank. Well, the 5 gallon i have only has 3 lace plants in there, because im buying a plant as i get money. Im making my divider today, and attempting to put cody in it after i get a submersible heater. Well since i only have 3 plants, will it cause problems if they can see each other until i can get plants?

I doubt it would, but put Cody in the side where the filter doesn't let out the water, if he is old i bet he's a bit more fragile then the others. I doubt anything will happen but i would keep the plants in a way to keep them from seeing each other. Or you could wait a few days and get the plants, Or you could "borrow" a few plants from any other tanks you have.

codys in the side away from the filter. Hes exploring his new tank. HOPEFULLY! he doesnt get on lillians side through the sides of the divider, he is a small betta. I will put lillian in tommorow. How can i lower the flow on the sponge filter. is it okay that i have the heater and filter on lillians side?

Nope, you will not need a heater or filter on both sides. You will just need to make sure the filter is positioned as close as possible to the divider to ensure good water circulation.
I always put my filter on one side and the heater on the other as close as possible. That way the circulation of the water from one side to the other keeps the temp even.
Also, place your thermometer on the opposite side of the divider than the heater is on.
