Can Mystery Snails reproduce by themselves? I know some types of snails can, but I heard that Mysteries can't. Also, are they good algae eaters, and do they produce lots of waste? I think they are big waste producers... But just checking, as I might get one

Apple snails are usually called mystery snails (Why i have no idea ) well anyways apple snails are not asexual, which means they need a male and female to reproduce (whew!! if you have a smaller tank then waste will be pretty high, but they do make their own share of waste. If you feed them well then you won't rellly have to worry, and i kept these guys before, and no they didn't die, i had to give ALL my fish away so i really couldn't learn much but they are strong but they should be kept in nice water conditions as all fish, and others here's a good site www.applesnail.net/content/multi_languages/english.htm

I just found out why Mystery snails are not called Apple snails but I can't remember the entire story something about Applesnails being illegal in some parts so they called them Mystery snails and they were accepted (weird I know). I will talk to my friend who raises Applesnails and get the story again from her, she's on vacation at the moment tho. I am awaiting anxiously for her return as she's going to send me a couple of snail clutches for my tanks ;D

cool, I think apple snails are illegal because in some countries they tried to take care of some insect problem or something and the snails took over and destroyed everything, so That probably has something to do with it, i think i read it somewhere.

of? Well I may understand why cause Applesnails were kinda nonspecies and began to take over so they 'renamed' them and thats why they have different names
