Other names:none Origin:China, Malaysia, Java, eastern India Max size:24" PH:6.5-7.2 Temperature:72-80 F. Min tank size: 80+ gallons Food:live foods, vegetable matter, pellets General Info: these guys are HUGE! they live upto their name as a 'giant' gourami, very cool to look at, and they are characters of their own. They grow fast and can be aggressive, (of course they're huge!) But they lose it as they age more and more. Their colors vary but are usually a uniform grey-brown. Feeding: These guys are omnivorous, eating anything from pellets, plants or feeders. They like to eat bananam lettuce and skinned peas, and any other veggies you have that are skinned (if needed) and blanched. Breeding: Breeding in captivity is possible, and has been done many times. The giant gourami matures at six months, adult males are distinguishable by their pointed dorsal fin and, at breeding time, their thickened lips. Both parents help to build a nest about 12 inches from the surface. The nest mostly consists of plants, with reletively few of the mucus-coated bubbles normally associated with gouramis. The eggs can take up to a month to hatch. ( a month!!) Photo Courtesy of: Allison Vlaun Baby Giant gourami Juvenile Giant gourami Adult Giant gourami at Only 12 inches!! its got another 12 to go!!!!!
