Has anyone here successfully treated cotton wool disease? One of our goldfish (named cola) has got what i think is cotton wool disease We put him in a treatment tank (10 Litre bucket with filter and airation) and treated with a broad spectrum antibiotic and it seemed to be worse the second day of treatment so we did some more reseach and may sites said to add salt to the water, so we added salt (suitable for aquarium use) into the bucket. That was last night. The other fish that were in the tank with him are doing ok, no signs yet of any more cases. How long does it take for the sign to show if these fish are gonna get it? Cola looks like he is in for a hard life anyways if he makes it through this he has always been a little deformed, we didnt realise until we let the fish out of the bag when we got home 1.5 weeks ago. He has got a bent fin, one gill is not formed propperly and he is little Awww. Anyway any help would be great, if i cant fix this soon then i think i may look into sending him to fishy heaven i dont want him to suffer Thanks

Hi Fishfriend Sorry to hear about your Goldfish. Cottonwool disease is also know as Body fungus which can be treated with Maracyn, I have successfully treated body fungus before but it may depend on how weak your fish is. Try the salt and the Maracyn for a week, if the others are going to show any signs it will most likely be in the next week but I think you will be fine. Good Luck with Cola ( the deformed fish always have a special place in my heart, any life with a good fish keeper is a great way to spend their last days).

Thanks for the help browneyes We have placed him into a 7Litre clear container so we can actually see what is happening with him. The cotton wool growths have dissapeared for the moment the salt must have worked a treat . We have changed his water and added salt to it again hoping for a full recovery, he is swimming, eating and playing in the bubbles. It does not seem to have worried him that much i think i was more stressed than him. I will keep you updated on how things go. Aimee

I am thinking i will keep him in there for at least 1 week, just to be sure that the fungus has all gone I am sure it was probably the stress of being in a new tank ect that caused (or at least added to) the problem. Thanks again Aimee
